For more than 20 years, MED et al, Inc. has been working closely with pediatric dentists and pediatricians to develop an effective device to stop thumb and finger sucking. Over that time, we’ve created a product that is endorsed not only by parents, but by dentists as well. We hope that these unsolicited reviews will illustrate this fact.

  1. I saw a difference within 2 weeks from when I would take it off to wash it after week 3 I took it off completely but after 2 weeks of him not wearing it he started sucking his thumb again so this time I will do 4/5 weeks and then give another update…so I’m confident …but I can say that 12 years ago I got one for my daughter and it worked permanently after her wearing it 3/4 weeks straight and she never sucked her finger again … people ask me all the time what is that they never seen or heard of it and I tell them about it and the site …Thanks Tguard

  2. We thought we would never break the habit and even considered expensive dental implants. TGuard worked like magic. I only wish we had heard about it sooner.

  3. We purchased the thumb guard when my son was two and a half; he was sucking his thumb day and night. The 30 day period of full time use worked for us but this behaviour is a soothing mechanism which also needs attention. My son is now 5, and we still use the thumb guards at night.

  4. my daughter is 11 and we had tried everything. At this point she decided she really wanted to stop and she agreed to try Thumb Guard and it worked great! She is Thumb free now. Of course, the child also needs to want to stop, unless they are very small, but it was comfortable and not like a fabric guard that gets wet and annoying. In our area people have not heard about it, so her friends/teachers had no idea what it was which also made it easier and less embarrasing.

  5. It probably works if it’s not a strong habit but my daughter switched from the thumb to the fingers and even if we still put it at night with coton gloves as we have been recommended for a few months now , she stills is sucking her index .

    • Hi Chantal,
Switching might happen occasionally for children under the age of 3. We do have techniques which can help address this issue.
Please reach out to us for help!
      Kind regards,

  6. I love the idea and had high hopes. I even bought a second one hoping that it’ll work only to have spent over $100 on a useless piece of plastic. My two year old figured how to take it off and tightening it did no good. It also left an unsightly bruise on his hand.

    • Hi Kenny,
We are sorry to hear that the treatment hasn’t been working out so far. Please reach out to us for support.
      Kind regards,

  7. It worked. My kid sucked his thumb at night. As soon as this went on, he stopped. The physical presence of the device alone was enough to get him to stop.

After about 40 days, we stopped putting it on for bed and he stopped thumbsucking for good.

    It works.

  8. Unfortunately we purchased two and have used past 90 days and unfortunately my son is able to slip his thumb out and has not stopped sucking his thumb. Unfortunate this product didn’t work despite proper placement.

  9. I AM IMPRESSED! My almost three year old has been sucking her thumb to fall asleep since she was a baby. Recent half a year she has started to do it more often when not sleeping, on the car especially. The dentist had been telling us to help her stop the habit and things were only getting worse with younger kids joining her class who suck their thumb all the time, she started to do that during the day at school too. I didnt want to use the bitter nail polish but was hesitant with the T guard because of the price. But I’m so glad I did! About a week beforehand, We told her we got a “glove” to help her stop her thumb sucking since she’s a big girl now. Then one weekend, we started. She was first curious and willingly put it on. But she wanted it off soon after. She didn’t even try to suck her thumb with the guard on or chew it. She just whined wanting to take it off. We told her we’d take it off during shower, telling her we understand it’s new and might feel weird, and that it’ can be hard to adjust to new things at first, but she can do hard things. The first several nights, not gonna lie, was really hard. She would fall asleep ok but cry so bad after wake-up in the middle of the night and not falling back asleep quickly as she usually had been able to. It got better but by bit after the first 5 nights, and after over a week, her sleep pattern went back to normal. She stopped sucking her thumb in the day almost right away after using it, and after a bit over 2 weeks, per her request, we took it off. She didn’t need it any more. We agreed if she started again we’d put it back on but she hasn’t yet, it’s been 3 days now. I have noticed her sleep to improve too since she doesn’t rely on sucking her thumb to fall asleep. She also loves the sticker routine every day. We don’t do reward or sticker charts at home, we just tell her it’s our way to count the days of her not sucking her thumb. Even though she’s not using the guard any more, we’ll continue till all the stars are gone and celebrate her graduation from the habit.

  10. It doesn’t work for my child. You can’t put on his tumb more than 3 days because it makes him hurt. It doesn’t gave me solution.

    • Hi Ephrem,
Please reach out to us for troubleshooting. In most cases, a smaller size or a readjustment will solve the problem.
Making the straps tighter is usually not the solution.
      Kind regards,

  11. My 3 yr old daughter sucked both thumbs from birth. We tried the yucky nail polish before trying tgaurd. That was no fun though because it didn’t dry quickly and I worried she would taste it when eating. We decided to begin using tgaurd around the holiday season. We pretended that some Christmas elves dropped off the tgaurds for her and that they were going to encourage her to wear them all the time except when bathing by bringing a tiny surprise each morning that she continued to wear the guards. We made sure to tell her that the “elves” knew she was a big girl and was ready for the challenge! It worked beautifully! My advice is to stay consistent for your child. Place the bracelets on every day/night for the entire duration of time. We added the sticker map to her bedtime routine and she grew to really enjoy adding a star to the map each night. The gifts were small too. Some days it was simply a fruit that she had never tried before or a chapstick or socks. We tried to gift things that she actually needed and not just junk that would get thrown away after a single use. Yes, the guards are expensive but it worked and has saved me from constantly harping on her to take her fingers out of her mouth and quite possibly money for braces later down the road.

  12. Yes. It absolutely did in 6 weeks. Worth every penny.

  13. Amazing buy now!

  14. My kid bit it so severely I had to buy another. Hopefully it’s not toxic?! The bands are ridiculously expensive and not enough are included so I had to buy more- despite the already high price tag of the t-guard. But you guys are one of the only ones on the market.

    • Hi Elyse,

  15. Our 6 year old couldn’t stop sucking her thumbs. The skin on her thumbs showed wear, her mouth structure was changing. I was ready for a dental implant but found T Guard first. We bought one for each thumb. IT WORKED. She never relapsed. She enjoyed picking out the colored bands. After 15 days she started happily putting them on herself. I only wish we had found TGuard sooner. I felt helpless for a while just not knowing what to do. I’m saving our tea gardens to pass along to someone else who might need them because they are very valuable 🙂

  1. I highly recommend this product! My daughter continuously sucked her middle and ring finger…when she was bored, tired, sleeping, ALL the time. It only took 18 days to break the habit completely. It has been 3 months and she has never once reverted back to sucking her fingers. The product fit well and did not bother her at all.

  2. We used the thumb guards first and that was successful but then our daughter started sucking her fingers so we got the finger guards but that was also successful! It’s been months now and we haven’t had any more issues! I am so grateful! Thank you! The only thing is, at first she was able to slide her thumbs/fingers out so it was hard to find the right tightness because it was too tight but not tight enough so that was a challenge. But overall this was a fantastic product and I highly recommend it!

  3. It worked! I used for both of my children and neither suck their fingers anymore!

  4. Brillant product, my 3 yr old was so pumped to earn stars each day!

  5. My daughter quit sooking her fingers with no issues at all using the tguard. Prior to this nothing was working.

  6. My kid still finds a way to wiggle his hand out, and if I may the strips a little tighter they cut his hand overnight. Still sucking his fingers

    • Hi Elena,

  7. Our almost 3 year old daughter had a very strong finger sucking habit, to include it being her self settling method at night, and we weren’t sure if we would be able to break it. We had tried less intrusive methods, but nothing was working. Her dentist recommended the TGuard and it worked! The first few days were tough, but eventually it became part of the routine. It did take longer than the 30 days to break her habit, and was hard at times, but definitely worth it in the end.

  8. It worked so well. He quit sucking his fingers in a week.

  9. My son was 2 years 11 months when we started treatment. I was certain we were in it for the long haul, as he sucked his finger ALL the time. After over month of using Tguard, his oral fixation remained and he was chewing through the device. We decided to take it off, to see what would happen. And the habit was GONE. No more chewing things (I think the device was more just available to him at that point) and no more sucking his finger! We are now 3 months post treatment and all still seems to be well.

  10. Tguard worked in just a couple weeks for our Kindergartner. A few months later, her teeth and finger are back to normal, and she is proud of herself. That’s the best part!

  11. This worked for about a week. Then our baby simply switched hands and, even worse, got into a routine of nail biting. Would not recommend.

  12. We loved using this product! We used it for 16 days! And that’s all we needed for our little guy to stop his habit! He was 16m when we tried! We are so glad he is done with the finger sucking! He seems to be getting less sick too!

  13. My son sucked his two middle fingers from birth. So badly that he was on prescription creams to clear his rash that developed. In 30 days, the guard stopped him. We are over ten days without the brace and he hasn’t attempted to suck on his fingers. Our pediatrician even told us to hold off on hope for this appliance, but they are now recommending it to other patients. Our daycare owner said she is happy to leave a review as well because she has never seen results like this. Your child has full function of his/her hand, but cannot get the suction or skin contact that drives the habit. I questioned this when we purchased it but I would pay triple for it! I assure you, I’ve gotten nothing for leaving this review aside from amazing results. Absolutely worth every single penny and the time. The first two days were tough but then he just slowly gave up. Follow the instructions and watch it work!

  14. After 6 years this broke the habit in about 40 days. Only wearing it at night. It’s worth it for sure. It was safe and easy to use. The draw backs are the wrist bands do not come with enough to really support the length of breaking the habit when the child needs to wear two bands because they can pull their fingers out with just one. The bands through Tguard are very expensive but you can buy cheaper bulk versions just as safe elsewhere. Well worth all of it – nothing else worked and I wish I had started with this and broken it earlier.

  15. My daughter pulled her fingers out to the point that she ripped the slots open and chewed the top off.
    She’s savage.

  16. Success!! We had a three year old finger sucker—all day all night. We implemented the finger guard as recommended and by day 6, she was done and hasn’t done it again! Highly recommend!

  17. It worked. Our 5-year-old son, who was a finger sucker since he was in the womb, kicked the habit in 30 days. I’ll admit that at first it felt mean, depriving him of his self-soothing tool. But we helped him learn breathing exercises and his teacher worked with him on other calming techniques, too. So it’s absolutely a commitment, but already it’s worth it because we haven’t had strep 16 times this school year 😂

  18. The TGuard didn’t limit my son from doing daily activities and the habit was broken!

  19. After trying many different methods to break the finger sucking habit, TGuard was the only method that was comfortable for our little one and it worked! Fours years of finger sucking was brought to an end after 42 days with the TGuard on. We loved the sticker chart reward system, it helped our son engage with the process and reap the reward of conquering his bad habit! Highly recommend!

  20. I found this on Amazon but purchased through your site. I did have to buy a second pair of wrist bands but only used a couple of the second set. I thought my 4 year old would hate this and never use it. She did hate it but we get her to agree to wear it at bedtime and we prompted her not to suck her fingers during the day because she was losing her 2 front bottom teeth. After using it for about 26 nights she stopped sucking her fingers! I am so thankful for your product and appreciate whoever invented this so much. I’ve never loved a product more.

  21. My child stopped sucking his index finger in 30 days!

  22. TGuard worked for two of our children! We tried other methods leading up to choosing TGuard such as positive encouragement, soft finger gloves, reminding them consistently to stop, etc. After a dental visit we realized we needed something that would help stop the habit more aggressively. After 45 days the habit was completely kicked and we are 6 months of finger sucking free.

  23. My daughter at 18 months stopped sucking her two fingers! She sucked those fingers since she was one month old! Took about three weeks to break this habit that I thought would carry on for years. Thank you!
