Description

New and recommended! We are glad to present the newest version of our highly successful thumb sucking treatment kit: AeroThumb®! Based on the same principles as our TGuard Classic, AeroThumb’s improved design offers an ergonomic fit that will fit on your child’s hand like a glove, helping you to stop the thumb sucking habit in a comfortable and effective way. Ventilating holes ensure cool air flow, which allows the device to be worn without any worry of condensation build up. More adjustment resolution means you can get a tighter, more precise fit.

In short, our new design is more comfortable, more ergonomic, and is far more effective than our 20 year old classic design.

If you are looking for a guaranteed way to stop thumb sucking in 4 weeks or less, without causing pain or discomfort, then look no further. Most parents see results after only ONE week of using AeroThumb, making it one of the most recommended solutions to break the thumb sucking habit.

Kit Contents

Each treatment kit contains everything you need to stop the thumb sucking habit for one hand, within 30 days.

  • 1 Ambidextrous AeroThumb™ appliance (can be worn on either hand)
  • 30 bracelets: fun to wear, and multi-colored, so children can choose a new color every day!
  • 1 Instalock – makes the fitting process as easy as possible!
  • One set of instructions
  • Reward chart + stickers

Please note: Many children will switch from one thumb, to the other, after putting on the TGuard. For that reason, we recommend purchasing two treatment kits, one for each hand.

Sizing Chart

Sizing can be a tricky matter and it’s very important to get the right size in order to have a successful treatment. We recommend the table below for most children.

Weight Under 40 lbs Between 40 and 70 lbs More than 70 lbs
Recommended Size Small Medium Large

Typically, a child under 4 will choose small, a child ages 5-6 medium, and a child above 7 will choose large. However, the weight chart is the most accurate way to gauge sizing, and we recommend purchasing based off a child’s weight, rather than their age.

If your child is very close to the cut-off between sizes, then go with a smaller size if the child is taller, or a larger size if the child is shorter. The reason for that is because the only important parameter in sizing is the relation between the thumb width and the diameter of the tube. Taller children tend to have more narrow thumbs and fingers, so they should go down a size, while shorter children tend to have wider thumbs, meaning they should go up a size. The length of the thumb plays no role in sizing.

Please know that children under 3 are more likely to switch from thumb to finger sucking, or vice-versa, due to their habit not being fully matured. If you see that the child switches from thumb to finger sucking, please contact us.

  1. Didn’t work for my 4.5 year old. She could take it off and complained it was super hot and sweaty on her hand.

    • Hi Rebecca,
Thanks for your review. It sounds like you may have had the wrong size. We would be happy to take a look and send a different size if you are within warranty.
      Please let us know!
      Thanks,
      MED et al, Inc.

  2. Our pediatrician recommended the t-guard and it ended up working great for our 4.5 year old. She was a very aggressive thumb sucker. We kept the device on her night and day for about 50 days and she hasn’t sucked her thumb since then. She was very motivated by the sticker chart that was included.

  3. This was a tedious process. Even on the smallest/correct setting, my almost 3yo would bite the tip and pull, and force his thumb out to suck it. He would do it otw to school (rf) and nap time. So I cut naps and ff him in the car, and it FINALLY worked (30-40 days in). It has now been MONTHS thumb sucking free. It DID work but it wasn’t easy.

  4. It took four months for my 3 yr/o to stop sucking her thumb.

  5. We had a relapse after two months and are having to start the process over. Our son was sucking his thumb in his ultrasound and is stubborn about not wanting to give it up. We are hopeful one more round will do the trick.

    • Hi Vicki,
Thank you for your feedback! If the child undergoes any appreciable period of time without sucking, it typically indicates the habit was broken and treatment was effective. It would be prudent to better understand the reason for the relapse, in order to address it moving forward. We do recommend reaching out to us to discuss.
      Kind regards,

  6. I am pleased with this solution and wish it would be promoted by more doctors and dentists. The worst problem we had was the child chewing the end of the thumb the first day or two. My child was 7 and had to go to school with it on. I think this really helped drive the point home, as she did not want to tell her friends what it was for!

  7. My son is 3yrs old, been sucking for over a year and nothing I purchase before the tguard worked. Purchasing the tguard put a complete stop to the thumb sucking! My son doesn’t even suck during nap time and when he sleeps at night time.

  8. We were a little skeptical about this but wanted to give it a try before our LO turned 2. He was a thumb sucker since the infant days and he mainly sucked it during car rides (boredom) and before/during sleep (comfort). Our dentist recommended this product and bc he sucked both thumbs, we ended up getting 2. He broke the habit within a month. Every toddler is different but ours was actually not reluctant to put on the guard at all! The only issue he had was when he was playing (that involves using his hands) and eating. But he quickly adjusted and rarely complained about it. We recommended the product to many friends around us and we are so happy he is no longer a thumb sucker!

  9. It worked! This product was recommended by our orthodontist. Our 7 year old wore the TGuard for 24 hours a day for a month, only taking it off at bath time. No more thumb sucking! We only wish we would have tried it sooner.

  10. The T-Guard was great until it wasn’t. Our daughter was 6.5yrs old. She learned out to make the medical grade silicone
malleable and sucked her thumb at night before slipping it back in when she got up.
She’d also have pressure spots from the plastic loop on the bracelet. I really do think it’s more successful with younger children. But, she’s not sucked her thumb in almost of week as of this writing, 12/23, and that’s due to classical bribery.
