Description

New and recommended! We are glad to present the newest version of our highly successful thumb sucking treatment kit: AeroThumb®! Based on the same principles as our TGuard® Classic, AeroThumb’s improved design offers an ergonomic fit that will fit on your child’s hand like a glove, helping you to stop the thumb sucking habit in a comfortable and effective way. Ventilating holes ensure cool air flow, which allows the device to be worn without any worry of condensation build up. More adjustment resolution means you can get a tighter, more precise fit.

In short, our new design is more comfortable, more ergonomic, and is far more effective than our 20 year old classic design.

If you are looking for a guaranteed way to stop thumb sucking in 4 weeks or less, without causing pain or discomfort, then look no further. Most parents see results after only ONE week of using AeroThumb®, making it one of the most recommended solutions to break the thumb sucking habit.

Kit Contents

Each treatment kit contains everything you need to stop the thumb sucking habit for one hand, within 30 days.

  • 1 Ambidextrous AeroThumb ® appliance (can be worn on either hand)
  • 30 bracelets: fun to wear, and multi-colored, so children can choose a new color every day!
  • 1 Instalock – makes the fitting process as easy as possible!
  • One set of instructions
  • Reward chart + stickers

Please note: Many children will switch from one thumb, to the other, after putting on the TGuard®. For that reason, we recommend purchasing two treatment kits, one for each hand.

Sizing Chart

Sizing can be a tricky matter and it’s very important to get the right size in order to have a successful treatment. We recommend the table below for most children.

Weight Under 40 lbs Between 40 and 70 lbs More than 70 lbs
Recommended Size Small Medium Large

Typically, a child 4 and under will be best suited with a small, a child ages 5-6 will best be suited with a medium, and a child aged 7 or order, will choose large. However, the weight chart is the most accurate way to gauge sizing, and we recommend purchasing based off a child’s weight, rather than their age.

If your child is very close to the cut-off between sizes, then go with a smaller size if the child is taller than the average for their age group, or a larger size if the child is shorter than average for their age group. The reason for that is because the only important parameter in sizing is the relation between the thumb width and the diameter of the tube. Taller children tend to have more narrow thumbs and fingers, so they should go down a size, while shorter children tend to have wider thumbs, meaning they should go up a size. The length of the thumb plays no role in sizing.

Please know that children under 3 are more likely to switch from thumb to finger sucking, or vice-versa, due to their habit not being fully matured. If you see that the child switches from thumb to finger sucking, please contact us.

  1. This worked great for my 7 year old. She kicked the habit after a month of wearing the thumbgard, with immediate success the first night.

I started the conversation before the kit arrived, and that got her excited and the seed was planted. I believe a combination of readiness on the child’s side and a very well thought-out kit created a useful solution. The bracelets were key to providing empowerment with her choice and customization. We didn’t pursue the star chart after initial few days, but it did help at first with the excitement and encouragement.

I chose the wrong size (large was too big), and t-guard swiftly sent the right size while allowing me to keep the large one. We started right away with the large one to harness the excitement of starting and then switched out to the right size when it arrived.

I thought the guard would be clunkier and more obtrusive but it honestly was no big deal and my daughter felt comfortable wearing it while sleeping and playing out with friends/camp.

great product, great service, and we are so proud of my daughter for overcoming this primal habit she’s known her entire life. super cool 🙂

  2. Absolutely amazing – it really works!
After years of trying different methods to help my 10-year-old daughter stop sucking her finger, this was the first thing that actually worked. Her dentist had noticed that the habit was starting to affect her teeth and recommended this product. My daughter herself admitted that she wanted to stop but just couldn’t. Thanks to this, she finally did! We’re so grateful. Highly recommended!

  3. My daughter was 4, and very motivated. She was excited about wearing the thumb guard. It was comfortable for her and she was excited about the sticker chart. We actually did not need to compete the whole sticker chart before she had completely stopped sucking her thumb. Very happy with the results!

  4. This worked! We used it for the recommended 30 days and our 3.5 year old quit the habit. He didn’t mind having it on at all. He enjoyed helping clean it and change the band every morning. It didn’t seem to hinder any activities or slow him down in anyway. It has been about 3 months since we stopped using the T Guard and he hasn’t sucked his thumb since! We are very happy with the results and I would recommend it to anyone with a child who sucks their thumb.

  5. I was skeptical, but after about a month and a half of using t-guard at night, my 6-year-old daughter was able to kick her thumb-sucking habit! We did end up buying a second kit for her other thumb because she reported that she was sucking the other one. I never saw her do that, but I did have to tell her to stop chewing on the guard a couple of times.

She probably didn’t need the extra couple of weeks using the t-guard, but I just couldn’t believe it would be this easy since I remember my brother and niece having a really hard time. So, I used some other wristbands a couple of weeks beyond the set that came in the box and then once we tried taking it off she was good and we haven’t had an issue in the months since!

  6. The TGuard device worked really well to stop my child from sucking his thumb. It took about a month of consistent use and a device on each thumb. I would recommend it to anyone with a child too young for the rake device installed by dentists.

  7. Worked great for my 4 year old who sucked her thumb while sleeping. Wish it came with more bands, since she would suck her thumb while napping too, but didn’t need to wear it 24/7. Very effective though!

  8. No, the guard did not work for my son. He is 4, I bought 2 guards because when we placed it on the thumb he sucked, he started sucking the other thumb. My conclusion is for the guard to work, the child maybe has to be younger and/or willing to stop the habit. I will not be trying anything for now, he will have to stop the habit by himself, I know I did too when I was a child.

    • Hi Zipporah,
We are sorry the treatment did not work for you. It is normal to switch to the other hand, and if the child is removing it, we would encourage you to send us photos in our help portal, to further assist you. You can visit us here: http://www.tguard.com/help
We should be able to prevent removal of the device.
      Kind regards,
      TGuard

  9. It was very helpful in stopping our child from sucking their thumb. They don’t even notice it on anymore. Great product!
